About the Foundation

BACKGROUND ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

The genesis of what later became The Stewardship Foundation occurred in 1977 with a part-time Director of Planned Giving and the creation of the Benevolent Home Fund with a primary emphasis on seeking bequests. The first Charitable Gift Annuity was written in 1979.   Subsequently, United Methodist causes have received or will receive more than $16 million in bequests through plans for giving developed in those early days.

The 1981, the name of the Benevolent Home Fund was changed to the Stewardship Fund with an expanded mission including ministerial pensions, parish development, student aid and the camping program.

Soon, the staff conducted other consultations, seminars and meetings where individuals and congregations were assisted in charitable gift planning, asset management, family financial planning, pre-retirement planning and establishing endowment programs.

In 1993, the Stewardship Fund became The United Methodist Stewardship Foundation of Central Pennsylvania.  And in 2010, The United Methodist Stewardship Foundation of Central Pennsylvania was re-named The United Methodist Stewardship Foundation, serving the new Susquehanna Conference.
